Who we are
The Nordic EMBL Partnership is a major strategic player in Europe’s molecular understanding of disease mechanisms, thanks to its complementary research expertise, outstanding research infrastructures and industry collaborations.
The Partnership now consists of four Nordic research centres, in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

From the Speaker of the Nordic EMBL Partnership

As Speaker of the Nordic EMBL Partnership, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our website. Our collaboration between EMBL and four Nordic research centres brings together outstanding scientists, advanced technologies, and a strong commitment to training the next generation of researchers. What makes our Partnership unique is the way we combine complementary expertise across borders, creating opportunities for discovery and innovation that none of us could achieve alone. By working together, we strengthen both Nordic and European research, and ensure our science contributes to improving health worldwide. As Speaker, I look forward to supporting this community, fostering collaboration, and representing the shared ambitions of our centres. I warmly welcome you to explore our work and learn more about us.

A collaborative network with complementary strengths
The Nordic EMBL Partnership aims to attract and retain outstanding international research talent by offering ang an excellent research environment for young, talented researchers with the aim to support them to build a long, successful scientific careers within the Nordic region. The partnership facilitates scientific collaboration and provides access to scientific infrastructure - including databases, facilities, instrumentation, services, and training opportunities provided by the partners. Beyond their partnership with EMBL, the individual Nordic research centres collaborate widely with other national partners, such as research and public health institutes, hospitals and research councils, with the aim of establishing an extensive Nordic network for molecular medicine.

Our research
The Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine unites leading life science institutes in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden to advance cutting-edge research in molecular medicine. Together, the partners study the molecular basis of health and disease across areas such as genetics, genomics, cell biology, and computational medicine, with a strong focus on translating fundamental discoveries into improved diagnostics and therapies.
Built on a collaborative model inspired by EMBL, the Partnership integrates complementary expertise across the Nordic countries and shares training, infrastructure, and scientific platforms. This interconnected framework fosters interdisciplinary research, supports early-career scientists, and strengthens the global impact of Nordic biomedical research.

Meet the nodes
The Nordic EMBL Partnership encompasses 4 Nordic nodes that collaborates with EMBL
Aarhus - Denmark

Umeå - Sweden

Helsinki - Finland
The Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience (DANDRITE) is the Danish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership, and performs basic and translational research in brain and the nervous system.
The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) is the Swedish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership. MIMS aims to strengthen Swedish research and enhance the dynamics in the field of molecular medicine.
The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is the Finnish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership. FIMM’s research interests are human genomics and personalized medicine, with a focus on translational research.

Oslo - Norway
The Norwegian Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medicine (NCMBM) is the Norwegian node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership. NCMBM conducts molecular medicine & biotech research and works to translate these findings into clinical practice.
